ISLAMABAD—Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has shown deep concern over the suspension of Neo News Television’s license by Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA).
The channel was on-air for several years, but all of a sudden PEMRA suspended the license, terming its news and current affairs transmission illegal.
In a statement, PFUJ President Shahzada Zulfiqar (pictured, left) and Secretary-General Nasir Zaidi (pictured, right) expressed surprise over the decision. They pointed out Neo News was seven-year-old, where hundreds of journalists were employed.
The channel received a suspension notice from PEMRA stating, “it was working illegally as a license to Neo News was issued for entertainment and infotainment transmission.”
PFUJ has demanded immediate withdrawal of the suspension and called for safeguarding the interests of employees.
